heyy all!
I'm a bit lost right now...
I want to split a stereo track into its mid and sides, that I got on 1 track the mid and on a 2nd the sides.
the nearest shot I did yet was with m/s decoding, but that gives me the mid on the left channel and the sides on the right, all on one track...this way its kind hard to process them independent, and I also didnt get it yet to put them back together
anyone maybe?

Was the original file recorded as M&S ?
Did you try using the Direction Mixer plugin ?

the original is a usual stereo file...the way I tried was the m/s decoding of the direction mixer.
will try your way dash, thanx!

In Logic,
you can route a stereo channel to a mono bus channel, using gainer you can invert the phase. At this point, the sum of two channels will result in ONLY the stereo information of the audio.
you can route those two channels into a seperate bus channel.

hmm no its both not what I'm after...I dont want both channels summed to mono and invert that or something, but the mid of the stereo signal and the sides seperate...thats a bit different
the best way yet is the one dash mentioned, but the only thing I'm still struggling with is how to merge them correctly together again...

I believe Waves has a stereo imaging plugin that can do what you are looking for. I forget what its called though.

yeah but then I got an m/s decoded stereo file again no?
the problem for me is to re-code the m/s file https://soundcloud.com/hazak

1) Output to 1.wav
2) Mix to mono, save as new file, 2.wav - this is "center" for the lead.
3) create a new file, 3.wav, which is 1.wav mixed with a phase-inverted 2.wav - what you have done is "subtracted" the 'center' field, and you are left with only the stereo of the track.... if you play 2.wav and 3.wav together, you will get your exact original output.
4) load 2.wav (center, mono signal) and 3.wav (stereo only, mixed to mono will get you silence) back in your sequencer, apply filtering as wanted.
5) output both played simultaneously to loop.wav (or whatever name you feel like) and reload in sequencer.
6) collect underpants
7) ???
8) Profit |

lol
but no thats not quite correct...if I would just mix it down as mono and then invert it and mix with the original it wouldnt be just the sides.
this is because if you mix something down to mono, both channels (including the sides) will get summed to a mono signal...if you invert this and mix it with the original you'll end up with the sides and the inverted mono signal of the sides in the middle
I get them already splitted correctly with m/s decoding, but my problem now is to re-encode those 2 files to the original signal...
btw, we re talking about an entire track here, not a lead or something https://soundcloud.com/hazak

ok I got my answer now on gearslutz, here it is for all:
duplicate the mid and the sides tracks...put one mid, one sides to the left and one mid, one sides to the right where the sides are inverted on the right for example...this will result in the original signal, I think just with a little gain raise
