Hi guys, I was just wondering if anyone could share how to speed up production, and making more music/tracks. Maybe one trick would be to save presets.

Anybody have any good tips on this?

Cheers!!

I use a template when I start a new project that has a kick, bass, and percussion channel. The kick and bass have empty kbbb style midi patterns and the perc has a midi pattern set up for an off beat hat and a snare on the 2 and 4.

Much more beyond that will strain your creativity for a new project imo.

If you're looking to speed up the time it takes to write a whole track, like anything, you'll just have to keep practicing and improving on your methods.          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Yeah, using a template for your default new project speeds up things a lot.
Put your favorite Synths in there, make the usual groups as you like, create return channels...all that stuff saves time.

I guess setting up a "process" or workflow for making tracks can help too, but I never did that yet.           My first track:

Thx guys...yea i think it does make sense keeping a ready template... It usually takes me a mth to make 5-6 mins, sitting all day... without concentrating on any other tracks. Just wondered coz sometimes you see ppl making music at super speed..

making 5-6minutes of music in a month with working everyday indeed seems a bit slow, but if thats your pace and youre happy with the results, it should be ok           My first track:

Lowering the BPM.
Because you need to write less music to get a 6-9 min. track. Another benefit of this technique is that you get an awesome bass and more space.           http://soundcloud.com/magimix-1/chilling-forest-whispers

Streamline your workflow.

Use less synths, less effects, less samples. Know what you use *really well* and working will become less work and more fun/experimentation. My best sounds come from happy accidents, and happy accidents come more frequently with synths and a DAW I know inside out.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

that lot of time man ! for me the best processus to speed up have been to have a date to finish the track ,like a party or for a label, if you fix a date you have to finish the tune it might help.
knowing well your tools help ,saving presets , templates.. inspiration of the moment and beeing used to make tunes is where things really speed up imo.
personally i save presets but almost never use them back, creating the sound is part of inspiration and mood for me, always init patch for everyhting mostly .

my 2 cents: I find that having a personalized set of hotkeys helps me speed things up alot. I also find that I work on tracks faster when I am excited about them. Working on the same track for more than two days in a row sort of loses its excitement, so I try to have two or three tracks going on at once... a chill track, a 145-150 track, and some strange ambient track. Rotating between the three over the course of the week keeps each exciting and fresh to me, which helps ideas come quicker, thus speeding up overall production.

hope that helps           --

Agreed. No timeline for creativity.

I found that after I started bouncing sounds to audio I would finish tracks faster because I wouldn't be able to go back and endlessly tweak midi.

I think a big part of faster workflow is learning how to be content with the sound you just made, have a plan on where to use it and being able to move on to the next phase.          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
