im searching for a tool, which can record direct as mp3 (i dont want to record wave files, which i have to convert)
also very important would be, that it can record for 24h without pause, and that i can define, where it saves the files (incl. temp files)
freeware prefered.

What computer and OS are you using? (Are we supposed to guess? )
For 44.1/16/stereo you need about 605 MB per hour. That's more than 14 GB for 24 hours. (Even if the end result is MP3, it will have to write a PCM file first). Wave and AIFF files have a 2 GB limit. (Actually it is 4 GB but most applications only support 2 GB). So you need something that supports w64 files or another 64 bit data format file.
Sound Forge supports w64 files. (But I don't know if it can use it for it's temp files...)
Either that or you need to start/stop recording every now and then...
You will want to make sure your inputs never clip which means keeping the levels quite low. If you convert this straight to MP3, the levels of the MP3 will be quite low.
In other words, you will probably want to normalise the file after recording. So you don't really want to record straight to MP3.
what are you going to be recording for 24 hours?
