hello

i'm trying to record my frist deejay set, it will have 60 minutes! but i don't want it to be "live", i will mix normaly in my turning tables, record it in my computer from the mixer.
but i want to stop mixing each time i change the track to make sure i mix all tracks very well in and out, i mean... if i strat with track A and then mix it into track B, i will do it many times until they mix perfectly and then save (the recorded mp3), then i will start B again WHERE I STOPED RECORDING it and play it until i start track C. so i must make sure i stop and start recording when the tracks are at the same speed and normaly equalized

this will make me have many mp3 files so i can make sure i did the right mixing from one track to another, is it possible to then use a software to put it all together? i don't want people who listen it to notice that i edited the mix

what software should i use to do it? any freeware?

thanks!

ow man... u are asking for it... ur looking at hours of work if you don't look out...

What i would do is: mix it 'live', when u make an error just turn back the song you want to mix into and pauze the recording (i would leave it in though, an online mix is to judge yer skills, and if u do it like that the organisers won't be able to judge yer skill). Then when u are ready start the song again, making sure that there is a little blank space in the recording, like that you can see where you have to edit. Do this every time you make an error.

Then you open it in yer favorite wave editor. Scroll untill you find a blank space. What comes before the blank space and after it will overlap (that means that part of the song will play twice). Find a very recognisable part that is present on both sides and stick it back together so the song seems to continue without you pauzing it... Do this at every blank space...

That's the way to do it without consuming hours of your time...

Agreed! Lots of work: yuck! And i think it's okay to have a few minor glitches in your set, otherwise it would sound fake

thats really nice FREGLE!thanx!

what i do is mix it live-when error occurs i stop recording and start again..really time consuming.

it really gets my nerves especially when the error is not in mixing but for example an unwanted fader move or somethin like that!

well my advice would be to learn mixing first and then record the djset ... because live u can't do that sort of stuff, and it would be quite embarassing if u have a gig and can't mix ...

actually its aint even DJ SET .. thats pre recorded mix or something else , when dj is djing he cant pause and go back

some advice .. do that thing of yours where you know all A ,B , C songs..then after that record the hole thing. after 25000 times you can do it , and then you can do it evry time

theres a lot of difference when playing on a gig and when giving a djset cd to someone to hear it.

when on gig the sound is much much more and many little mistakes can be handled easily or even not be recognisable.
its quite different when someone has a mixed cd of yours and can listen to it again and again.everything should be as perfect as they can!

why should it be perfect then?
to show how well you can mix?

what kind of effort are you putting into your djing?
And what exactly are you trying to accomplish?

And for last, how goof would you feel when you know you can't mix perfectly - but they think you can...           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Strange, how a playback-artist can become a performing artist

It is a sort of performance anyhow... the fact that there is a thread like this one proves that point           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

it should be as perfect as YOU can cause of the reason i already said.i didnt say perfect

let me tell you-have you heard any djset of an artist/dj that has a major mistake on it?
personally i have not.
why?because they never make mistakes?
no.because they probably edit it or they play it about 100(or less or more)times till they are there.isnt it like this?

and at last, wouldnt you feel goof all way the same if u had to play your set many many times till its good enough to pass it out?ok,u may get it with the first try but not always.on the gig its one time and ONLY one-its where u trully show ur capabilities.not on your home with a thousand hours recording or a hundred hours editing.

all i m saying is that the way FREGLE mentioned can save u time because no dj will ever give away a mixed cd of his that has some-major or minor depending to him-mistakes.

either he does it by editing or by repeating his recording session.
