It depends on what you use for the carrier.
Use an airy lead/pad and this is how it will sound. Use a jet plane engine - your voice will sound like a speaking jet plane.

There are two signals coming to a vocoder:
- carrier defines the character of the sound and is usually a synth,
- modulator is used to derive band-pass filters for the carrier in real time and is usually speech.
The outcome will depend on two things: how your carrier sounds and how many bands you have in your vocoder’s filter bank (the latter you’ll have to determine by experimenting).
There are different ways but working with a carrier with the characteristics you want could be a good start, avoid chording the inputs aswell I prefer it in 1 tone

Vocoders are tricky bitches. Orange Vocoder I believe has an option where it already provides the carrier, and so just gets right to the vocoder-ish goodness.

try using metallic FM stuff, formant stuff as the carrier
avoid making the carrier all crazy if you want to actually hear what the voice is saying - like dont assign really deep LFOs to make the signal waver..unless that's what you're going for of course
