How to "mute" tracks in logic?

For instance, if you wanna put the baseline and kick silent or on hold abruptly, as i would describe it, how do you really do that when you got fx on it? For instance, to get that 16 part rolling baseline i put a small delay on it. I want to mute it and maybe put an fx in the "break" of the arrangement and then make it start in sync as where it was before the break. Now what i get is that the delay effect keeps going into the break.
Another example is if i wanna use a reverb rising and the suddenly stop when the other tracks comes into play so that the reverb does not have to fade out in the arrangement.

click on the automation tab on the channel it self then>main>mute.
And do a mute automation. that will work if all the effects are inserted. If you are using busses, repeat the mute automation process on the busses them selves, or on the channel it self, see if you can get away with automating all the sends to -infinity early enough to have them all stop when you mute the channel it self.
