hey folks,
i've been playing around with FL trying to learn some synthesis. I record all my automation on the fly in a long pattern.
The thing is, after 2-3min, automation gets really messy and changes to it take lots of time. Can you recommend some better way to do this?

Right-click on any button or fader or whatever you want to automate. then click 'Edit Events'.. with this window you can do your automation without using the record button.
i usually do all my automation in the same pattern10(Main Automation). if you do it all on 1 pattern, you can use the 'Edit Event' window and click on the control drop-down menu and select any of your 'recorded controls' (automations)in that pattern.

i think edit events is far more easy to control than automation clips...or to make more than one clip and to use lfo's on lfo's...and if you have a midi keyboard u r tha mann cause this shit took me hours to put that dot where i wanted it all the time...or u could export what u do... it is the best way.
anyway imageline sucks....had nice feauters like linking that i liked a lot but now i use waves sc on cubase like all decent human beings

u can add automation clips by clicking right btn on mouse after there would an automation clips section under all your channels (unsoted, autoclips)
so you can go in the channel sets of the autoclip and make lfo than u can control the level of the lfo by taking that line in the playlist and draw some automation... aft3r u can edit events even on spd of lfo in the channel sets after u create a lot of nice mess

i think its the same thing, but automation clips you cant record (if you can i dont know) you draw your automation adding dots...when i record the automation with the midi controller and i try to edit it on the events i find far more complicated than editing an automation clip...i m not really used to edit events maybe is more simple than i think

on the fly if u record from controller the data goes in the edit events window , right click > create automation clip though is the way for intricate detailed automation , no easy way , but the results are good , get lost in the detailed minute work , automate the automations also for some more fun

Use the same automation clip to do multiple tasks by linking it; every setting can be linked to multiple controllers.
When more then one setting is needed controlling at the same time, in different ways, use edit event to have one pattern that can be reused.
Rather then have long automation clips, to open and close an area; have a short clip with both ramps, use the playlist to adjust its size, to then make a start and end clip.

i could not agree less!
cubase is slow and very flimsy in terms of automation handling/duplicating/arranging/editing compared to fl.
piano roll/automation and the step sequencer for drums is the 3 things keeps me in flstudio so far!
