how do i make all those crazy psy effects?
do i just tweak synths and add effects till it sounds like i want to?
i don't really understand. |

"all those crazy psy effects" There are lots of them, and even more that havent been invented!
be innovative! use your brain!
i dont want to sound rude, but there are so many different things you can do, why stick with hoovers and bleeps... experiment! 
Basicly you do what you said, tweak synths and add eFX! With or without a vision..
tweak and ponder! Try different FX combos! delay, pitchshifter, phaser, reverb. ect, ect
Flanger, delay, autopanner..
well you get the drift!
it´s hard to imagine sounds if you havent fiddle with LOTS of sounds and eFX before...
so start to fiddle and learn.. and soon you will get ideas how to make a certain sound or how to make interesting eFX combos...
There are some guides on how to make certain sounds.. you will often find them on forums...but you have to dig em out your self, try

get a membership and check their forums out, they have a section called "Sound Design and Synthesis"
you might find very valuable tips and guides to make certain sounds over there..

make experiments with samples, synth and effekts... there are no boundaries. everyone has is own style..even you have some effektstandarts like lfo, delay, reverb. |

try playing with pitch automation, filter lfo, low pitch, stretch, reverse samples. Use noise generators and do all the things metioned above with them. Then make your sound fly with pan automation. the possibilities are endless!! (gosh I love making soundeffects! one of my favourite occupations...  )
Another tip: use ohmboyz vst, you can make very wicked stuff thru that thing but watch your ears and speakers! |

oh yeah, before I forget: try 'blip' (FREE!!...but hard to find) and 'quadrasid' vsti's. They (and a lot more vsti's) can make really nice soundefx. |

If you want to get good at sound design, it's a good idea to stick to a certain synth for a while, and get to know it really well (also, READ THE ****ING MANUAL). After tweaking it for a few months you will know how to achieve the sounds you want, and know what you need in a synth to make the sounds you can't make with the one you are using. And be aware that many psytrance producers spend more time searching through presets and tweaking then actually working on their tracks =))) |

tweak the fuckers! experiment! u'll definitely get something, maybe not "cool effects", but definitely wicked effects....good luck |

nothing to understand mate , this is the fun part nobody can tell you you have to much sub or the sound is not punchy enough.
This is only you and your crazy mind whatever you like is good , this is the part with the least borders in trance.
You don't need to know how to do them you just need to do them ...try evrything your mind tells you , FX cuting samples using pitch graphs, the rules are that there are no rules.
Just enjoy yourself this is the most enjoyable
part in creating psy trance , (IMHO)

Put lfos and envelopes on things, distort, filter, crush, squash, expand and twist as needed. Experiment long enough you will get some really wicked sounds.
