Seems like someone here fell in love with some FM
The theory is simple: make one oscillator modulate the frequency of another one - thus FM. Usually the osc being carried (the last one in the line, actually outputting the signal going at some point to the amp) is a sine wave, but fell free to innovate! For the modulators for this sound I'd go with saw or square waves.
To make it move, adjust the FM amount - and remember, much of the trick is to have slight changes that take their time to change.
But you can also have two carriers (it wound sound as "clean" and each transient so distinct as the example) and use additive and subtractive synthesis - adding two sines (or saws or even squares) together and making it rip.
Also, in this example I believe there is a slight separation between the stereo fields, giving the lead just a bit of fatness
There's another cute effect in the lead, which is it's "ripping" characteristic
- somewhat like tearing velcro - which is typically associated will fuzz distortion -> and that makes it rip all over the place!
But do try other distortion types, and make something that doesn't sound like this example, but way cooler, in your own way

Hi
Thanks for the reply Knocz.
I tried doing what You said here. I'm not able to recreate the sound.
It seems more like it might be a sawtooth with a bandpass and some distortion, more than an FM sound.
Are You sure You heard the right part of the track ? 2:50 sec .. If YOu have Sylenth and look for a preset called Banddisto (Lead)..This lead in the track is similar, except it has more movement...like a phaser or flanger or something, Making it very fat sounding.
I have heard this type of lead a lot in Psytrance...right from Infected mushroom and Melicia.
Could You please listen to it again (2min 50 sec)...also if possible could You try to create the sound..maybe upload a patch.
Thank You |

yup, sounds good. i think vanguard's acid filter (whatever it's called) could come very close. |
