I wonder if anyone who knows how to make this
rising effect at 0:11 in this clip

Is it automation of the pitch?
Regarding automation on effects is it better to use automation on audio or directly on the vst synths?

yep. it's automation on the pitch. i'd rather use it directly on the synth. otherwise you'd change the filter cutoff with resonance the like, but that depends on what you're after.
