Hi fellow trancers!

Here's a sample of what I'd like to achieve:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/w7ds1m
Let's put the delay and HPF aside for a moment, they are not crucial.
The 'ripping' effect - it sounds like modulation speeding up, but what is being modulated? Spent two days trying to recreate this sound on a Virus TI, and I'm stuck having exhausted all ideas.

I've read Eskimo is an avid Nord user, so maybe it's something that the Nord can do and the Virus can't? In any case, I'd like to know the technique behind it.

you can do that sound on any synth, it's just very low notes and HPF. what you are hearing is the bass spikes, the fundamental is always hidden by the hpf. i think that the ripping effect is just a slide. as your note slides up in pitch the bass spikes become more frequent, therefore they sound like "speeding up".

turn the keytrack up on an acid lead. learned this from the vangaurd at least - at least this is how it seemed to work on vangaurd. the lower notes you hit, they'll be more 'rippy.' and you have to start with a NICE ripping saw lead sound.

2 high pass filter cutoff linked to velocity at different amounts with medium res.

I always though eskimo's deal with those though was the Nord. It's possible to do something very similar with Z3ta+ pretty easily.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page

@Padmadani, Obelizk - thanks for the tips! Gonna try them when I get home. It seems the key to 'ripping' is pitch bending, while I used to think the pitch is stable and so kept looking elsewhere.

Obelizk, when you say "turn up keytrack", do you mean filter key tracking? As in, lower notes = lower HPF cutoff?

Sorry Cardinals Cartel, don't really get what you're saying

I'm gonna take a guess here.. I think Cardinal is saying post the file via soundcloud so people dont have to mess with downloading the file, etc..

could be wrong, but definitely is a cooler way to do it then having to go to some shifty site and download something just to give it a listen..           Gamma Riders EP out now on iTunes and Amazon.com!
