could easy be a trilogy or something too.. but i got to bet on hardware..
the machine and technical details imo are not that important as choose/make what really simply sound good.. many presets would do it as well specially from hardware synths factory sounds blow me away i cant afford to delete them to make others lol lucky i can save new presets in the DAW and not have to do it inside the synth
btw awsome song

wow. Really interesting.
EQ, compress, EQ compress, EQ compress, EQ, compress, EQ compress, EQ compress, EQ, compress, EQ compress.
And this makes it sound good, not bad. How cool.

Yeah, I can't get my head round it. Surely the more you EQ, the more you're taking away the sound? Confusing... |

Why would you think this would make it sound bad? We've talked about it so many times on here, lots of processing does not mean "bad sound" if you know what you're doing.
And Ott has been in massive studios, worked on massive projects for like over a decade? Its no surprise he would go into such a process to get a certain sound, it also does not mean that is always the way to go either.
If you read his post, he used some bog standard cheap VST as a source as well (for the track in question on the psymusic thread and that bass is silly phat as well!).
If you know what you are doing, you know what you are doing, irrespective of net rumours about IM not using compression...etc.
Processing things a lot, does not inherently mean bad, it does not inherently mean good either, you just need to know what you're doing.
Peace out.

Everything in music production is always 'simple' after you figure it out. Using a compressor on top of 7 other compressors seems like it wouldn't be helpful.
I read his posts. Yeah the refx junox with the 'fat' slider.
The combination of EQ then compression over and over to 'round' is something I'm still wrapping my head around. I just see EQ as adding or cutting and compression as phattening up, but I tried it out yesterday and got some cool results. So i'm stoked

I'm learning new stuff every session. And has been for the last 10 years or so. That is indeed the beauty of it.

"Distortion, similar to overdrive or fuzz, is an effect applied to the electric guitar, the electric bass, and other amplified instruments such as the Hammond organ, synthesizers, and even harmonica and vocals. Accomplished by electronically compressing and/or clipping the input signal, this effect adds sustain and additional harmonics and overtones to the signal, creating a richer sound." wikipedia
