303's are talked about often: http://www.d16.pl/index.php?menu=10 is a good option.
Pads have lots of reverb with the lows cut. Which waveform i have no idea.

i don't know how he did, but i'd start like this:
2 saws, most times on the same octave, max one apart.
both detuned, but not more than +/-20, for the 'swimming' effect
sometimes rm to get more high frequencies.
bp or hp, not too steep to allow more sound through.
i sometimes modulate resonance to get it more pulsating.
and modulate other things slowly, like cutoff, a little bit of pitch on one osc, to get the detuned effect more moving.
and most important:
chorus, very wet, not too deep and not too fast
nice long ambient reverb
it won't work well without chorus and reverb
that should get you started.
the feeling of the pad comes from the chord played.
the pad in the second clip lives a lot from the added noise. |

a lot of textures, waveforms and a little bit of morphing  I used only vsti here. Omnisphere, Atmosphere, Camel Audio Alchemy and others.. |

dont forget that the sparkling highs of the other instruments makes a nice contrast. the pad will not sound that good without this contrast.
