hi i need help making the common effect where a lead or pad is chopped/gated. I know of effects like trance gates but these arent good enough, on pro tracks i hear much more complicated and controlled gate sequences. how do this?i can think of a few ways- just manually cutting it up, mute automation, sidechain gate..what u guys recommend for best result?
thnks
n im on cubase btw

You could also try a glitch plug in, depends on what OS you are usuing, but theres a few like dblueglitch, Effectrix, LiveCut, SupaTrigga. Worth the try.

you can use a fx plug in like mentioned above, or you can route a midi gate from a midi channel to the sound or sounds you want then create a pattern or you could do it by hand via chopping, automation mutes etc...

if you're using logic, ultrabeat is a good option. it lets you use a midi pattern as gate and you can control parameters like filter, envelope, volume with the velocity.

Scuzzphut Lite is my go-to audio gate, does its job nicely, easy to manipulate (quick enough for live use), just the right controls and nothing extra. Doesn't go smaller than 1/16 though. Much more straightforward than something like Ableton's native gate. All the Scuzzphut plugs are abandonware now and theres some other goodies in the bundle.

you simply entered wrong fx on wrong channels you can did it more simple than on this video
open audio and midi tracks.
on audio open "midi gate" from plugins list.
on midi channel set output to "audio x.ins.x - midi gate"
make some notes on midi channel. ready
