It sounds like an fm sound indeed. I have quite a few sound presets in albino that sound like that. Although it might be difficult to make exactly that sound. Because often I also add distortion to these kinds of sounds. Try the Cosmosis albino patches for a start http://cosmosis.co.uk/freebies soundcloud.com/supergroover

Heh, thats a question I ask myself since I started making music.(want to do nice proggy sound aswell).
Its clear that there is FM involved, but there must be something else. I tried to rebuild it many times, I even got somewhat close to is but never close enough.
Will see what I can get out of my Operator or maybe Z3ta(havent got much FM practise with that one)....

Maybe you search for a singel shot that sounds like this fm sound.
Put in the inserts a delay and after it a filter and automation on the cutoff.
Hope that helps you.

i'm just trying to learn and keep knowledge of esp. psytrance synthesis.
or in other words : playing NEW melodies within(!) scales needs understanding scales

To be able to create new sounds, its very helpful to understand how the "old" sounds are created, don't you think?

There can be some benefit to trying to recreate old sounds, but at the end of it you just have a sound that has already been created when you could have spent time making something new. I think copying old sounds really goes against the whole idea of making something psychedelic.http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound www.chilluminati.org - Midwest based psytrance group

never heard a psytrance track without noise up/downlifters or some squelchy leads or with a not compressed env-modulated saw-wave bassline.
what i'm trying to say is that (in my opinion) it is (sometimes) necessary to use sounds again and again just that you recognize that you are still listening to a psytrance track.
i remember the "10 do not rules" thread and i must say that i cannot agree with most of those so called "do not rules" esp. when you produce dance(!) music stuff.
i think that esp. for dance stuff you absolutely need to use new lead sounds e.g. (so stuff that is very "near" to the listener/dancer), but all those background noises and esp. structures should be familiar to the listener/dancer.
but for mind-warping-psychedelic-stuff i agree with you.
