How to make that metallic FM stab sound?

Does anyone know what sound I'm talking about?
You know that very harsh distorted stab sound, very very much used in Psytrance songs.
I have that Discovery Vst, and there's a preset which sounds very similar to this sound I'm talking about.
But would it also be possible to make it with the Access Virus B, or is only the Nordlead used for this sound? |

I think u are talking about the "FM metalic distored hit" used a lot on Psytrance,on tracks like One Good from AP and GMS... Am I right?
If so, try the old FM7, preset "Exciting"(I guess the first one). The secret to achieve the sound is to turn all the fx off, and mess with "Easy Edit" page buttons.
And for sure u can make this using Virus, but Nordlead sound is more crystal and resonant imho.

I uploaded some synth 1 patches, theres an FM type sound, right nw i dont remember if it the one u are looking for, it´s quite easy with discovery.

dont argue boys! both are super synths! hehehe and they've already learned to live together,
anyways, going back to the topic! i dont know what kind of sound are you talking about? a really tipical and good FM lead synth is the Heavy Sync patch in the first pages of the Fm7 library, if not... try describing a little bit more.

I wouldn't even know any songs which contain this sound, I'll look for some tonight and tell you which songs have this sound.
But for now, I know this sound is sooooooooo pupolair!, nearly as populair as this rubberish pitch modulated saw sound.
The metallic sound is very much used as a short stab which comes in once or twice a measure.
It's not used as the main theme for a song, but more comming up in the beginning of the song stabbing straight thru the beat and other little FX before the big lead melodies come in, but it sounds very powerful and uplifting. |

This is imo the "most popular metalic fm stab"! Nowadays it´s even more distorted, and not so fat. I remember I used this a lot from Nord Lead 2 and from FM7.
Just to get a detailed view: the sound has 0 attack??? Or is itsound like a sweep(Like Jeto's example)?

Wow, is that the sound? (from 0:06 sec)
It's really a FM lead using saw waveform on both OSC going through a Lowpass filter... You can use a HPF or BPF for more interesting results. Add a little bit reverb. The AMP env's release should be short, with attack =! 0 and subtle glide could be nice.
