I use a vst effect gate a lot for gating, but is there a way in cubase to write in stutter edits easily?
basically is there an easy way to manually gate a track? |

You can do (it's either ALT, or Ctrl, or Shift) + cut tool once on a sample to cut it up into increments all the way through, select all, then move each piece's end back by clicking the lower right box and dragging left.

The way I do my manual stutters, is import the audio file in about 20 zones in a sampler, all made out of a single key zone, then go in the sampler's audio editor and select the best 10 different bits of the long audio file, for the 10 adjacent keys and add another 10 keys playing the same audio segments, but reversed.
No key is tracking (drums setting) so whatever note I hit, it makes the original note of the audio, but I can still do all them long pitch bends by using the pitch bend which is bending the samples by say 2 octaves.
Then input 16th, 24th, 32nd notes in the midi editor and play around to make the desired pattern.
It takes a bit longer to set up the sampler instrument, but the fun starts whilst you save your sampler patch.

Wow. So now I know how to do it the simple way and with a sampler to mix it up. Thanks for the responses guys.
I don't know what I'd do without this forum. |
