I make 2 different types of stabs, the one note stabs and the chord stabs, mostly I think a stab is any noise or sound with a lot of attack, now you can have short rhythmic ones with close envelopes, or you can have the envelopes more open, I like shorts ones, I like to make series of 5 or 6 different stabs and make them talk to each other, find the rhythmic position for every one and they start to sound very interesting. Sometimes I use as stab some type of percussion, or a synth, or maybe a chopped vocal, it really doesn't matter where you get it, I think the important think is that it helps the rhythm of your track, but the best way to do it is just to experiment, some sounds that you never thought on putting them as stabs work really well if you close the envelopes, or just bounce the sound and cut it, put some delay or reverb and bingo. |
