Hi !
I would like some help on how you can make nice rythms.
When i listen to drumloops i believe they sound incredible rytmic compared to those i make in fruity loops.Mine becomes to static and boring to listen to.
So any advice on how to make rytmic loops are welcome.

Try moving the drum notes around a very tiny bit (like 1/128th or so) to get a more "human" feeling to it, and also try varying the velocity and panning of the notes slightly. Also, don't stick to just use notes on every 1/4th beat, play around with 1/16th notes as well, to get away from the "mechanical" sound which is often the result of sticking to just the "main" beat. For me it helps to look at a rhythm as consisting of two or more rhythms, which I try to get to work together. For instance, the kick and snare has one rhythm (could be just a straight 4/4 beat), while the hihats and percussion have another, less regular rhythm. When combined, the different elements give a more interesting result than the rhythms would alone.
I'm sorry that I can't explain this better, but I hope you can at least get something out of my answer. |

MusAphira, thanx maybe a good way to just use finished loops and then just rearrange them.
But the first thing i think about is will not the kick of your drumloops interfere with the kick you use in your own song ?
Which program do you use for slicing up beats ?
I sometimes use the beatslicer that comes with fruity loops.
Freep nice suggestion so you say that i should move the drum notes very tiny around.
I believe this is what happens when i quantize straight 4/4 beats, it suddenly sound a bit more rytmic.Consisting of two rytm´s could you give me an other example.

the thing is : there are no(!!!) kicks in Elad's loops
i used Fruity Slicer too but now im producing with Ableton Live 8 and working with loops/slices/warps is awesome in Live.
so i never used FL tools for that again, sry!
edit : sometimes i just use dblue Glitch or Effectrix (with very small patterns) for more dynamics in drums ... especially for hats !!! |

i often use high pass filter on percussion loops even if they have a kick in them you can "almost" eliminate it. i try to stick to ones with no kick though. as for programming your own. you need to have layering going on. layer a few sounds. make some quiet some a little louder on the velocity also as stated above velocity and panning. also adding a quantisize groove as stated above helps much. i pretty much got to the point where i said okay i can spend 5 minutes creating this shaker loop so it sounds just right or i can grab one thats close to what i want and work from there. so i do use loops for a lot of simple percussive sounds.
