During last few months I've started to look for some practical MIDI devices that can be hand made. Soon I've found out that for 160 Eur you can make MIDI sequencer with incredible abilities.
Since some of us are not in position to think about Virus, NordLead and other expensive hi tech toys this could be of great interest to some of you.
Good people made a web site and are providing step wise instructions and detailed explanations on how to assemble some incredible MIDI devices. Also there is a dedicated forum.

Also there are other devices you can make with equally low budget such as SID synth, FM synth etc.

I'm very tempted to make a custom Ableton controller for live/DJ'ing using MIDIBox.
I haven't got the impression that it will be cheap though.
The MIDIBox stuff itself is not costly and sure you can find very cheap pots, buttons and faders, but considering the effort involved in building your own hardware I would go for at least decent quality and then it's for sure not cheap.
When I looked around it seems like it would be almost €1000 for the stuff I would need but it will depend mostly on how many controls you require.

Yeah, pretty usefully stuff can be built with help of the MBHP.
I recently have buit a MBHP_SID Synth
