Ea, can anyone here give some hints how to make the track feel faster? I m doing a track that is 140 bpm, but i think it is too slow and i dont wanna increase BPM.

I know one of the keys is the hats and the snare. But how to make those elements make the track more faster and dynamic, and how can i process the snare? I think my snare isnt fit my track, any snare i try fits.

If you shift elements of your track so that some of them come in just slightly (milliseconds) early it will give it a rushed feel which can make it sound faster.           ~Airyck~

hey mate, can you explain this better?

for example, my snare i tried to put it to come slightly before my kick (i dont know it it was sligtly enough) but sounds to strange for me, if i put the snare on the same note ass kick sounds better, but slow too           ``We shall not cease from exploration - And the end of all our exploring - Will be to arrive where we started - And know the place for the first time.``

1.) try using the closed hihats at 16th intervals. So, each 16th beat gets a closed hihat. In some areas you can even do hihats going 32nd beats.

2.)try using the open hihats for both the 3rd and 4th 16th of the measure. The first 3rd a bit lower in volume than the second.

layer the open and closed hihats to see what sounds best for each section of the song.

Also, big buildups can make the song sound faster...

For example: if you have melody lines before a break that have more 4th and 8th notes, then after the break you can start writing melodies in more 8th and 16th notes. This will fill in the gaps and make the song sound FASTER!

Cheers.

You probably don't want to do it with your snare, just shifting your hats and other rhythmic parts.

The stuff that holds the solid beat like the kick and snare you'll want to leave alone.

Obelizk's tips were good ones to try as well. Using 16th note rhythms and drum parts will help it sound faster too.
I didn't realize you were this early in your production, so I'd stick with things like just doing 16th note rhythms and things like that for now.

Good luck

At the beginning of an 8-bar measure, try putting a kick on every 1/8th note instead of every 1/4 note for about 1/4 bar or 1/2 bar. Then proceed as normal.

Also try delaying the bass a few ms (5-10ms).
This can make huge diffrent in the feeling of the bassline.           http://soundcloud.com/seamoon

The note/frequency and rhythm/pattern and shape/length of the pulse in your bassline is one of the major factors in how fast your track will feel, in some ways even more so then its BPM.

These can be influenced by pitch & note, the pattern in your sequence and the envelope & dynamic processing.

Its why sometimes a 140bpm track sounds faster then a 145bpm track.

Move your bassline notes around. Shifting them up will add drive to the sound.

Play around with sections that have and don't have certain percussion sounds. IE- no hates for 8 bars, then 16th note hats.

Just experiment, it's most important to find something that fits the motif of the track rather than trying out generic techniques.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

The amount of space between sounds also make a huge difference. If all of your drumsounds have a long decay, the lack of space between them makes the track sound much faster, whereas sounds with short decay make the whole track sound slower. Be careful, because this can turn your mix into mud...

temporary double up hihat's timing
use 2-3 different samples for that.

if you reeally want to make it faster ...
there's still tempo track automation left.          http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

face groove and work it out to your personal max,use lots of percusions or elements and play lots of variations.Play them elements dont set them as just 16ths or 4ths and that's it.
Make all what comes to ya mind, change like crazy ,play all like instrument also with plug ins as an additional support, semitones finetuning, panorama, different gates that you play with , pitch - from time to time.
Avoid monotony and change often that pattern.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

+1

First reason when something sounds not so fast / tight enough could be detuned/disonant sounds, like bassline or percussion.

I also recomend:

- Using ocassinoal 32th hats
- Reversed percussion
- Arpeggios
- Glitch / Stuttering on synths
- Perfect settings on KBBB bassline envelopes
- Sweeps and white noise fx
- Goldray xD

Maybe we can have a test render of your track to give better advice.

good luck!
