in usa they have big budget for the commercial stuff , they can spend more money into production but you can get great result even by just using plugins, maybe not comparable depend taste...but don't think if your sound suck it s cause of plugins vs hardware, it s a lot about experience even if the tools help.

here a video of JOACHIM GARRAUD who made some hits for guetta and other producers, he use simple set up as you can see.

i tried now for some more hours and after reamping, layering and finetung my result was ... nearly the same.
i should have wasted my time somewhere else lalala i suck

cant wait until i waste another 1000 bucks for a hardware synth, to recognize that my music still sounds DAWish

Don't spend money on a hardware synth then, get better monitors, sort out your acoustics.
People in the pop industry do use soft synths, they just have the means (and experience) to identify and reach a certain sound.
And don't worry so much about the drawbacks of in the box mixing. You can get very good sounding mixes in the box. Work with what you have until you get something better.

k, my monitors and treatment have to be enough for the next decade
im not willed to pay more ...

my music dont have to sound perfect, but at least something representable... it should loose that toyŽish character. im quite sure i would get out the most with better mixing skills. the question is where to learn them... finding another forum i guess. do you know such?

Well that's a toyish sounding track, I mean the original David Guetta one, so you are after toyish sounds that sound massive and are very well mixed...a forum will not give you an answer, spending more time in your studio will help you more than anything, as you'll train your ears and get better at mixing things.
Being able to get a good mix is an art of its own. Its the thing that makes things sound, phat, clear, wide...etc
If the room sounds good, I would consider getting some cash together to buy a better pair of monitors. Try to get some gigs and put that cash on the side, only for studio gear, or something...
In any case, you are supposed to enjoy making music, not feel let down by your self if you don't think you are good enough for it...generally speaking...
I have noticed that the more I learn about production, the more I realize I have a lot more to learn.

Peace out.

thanks DH!
i guess youre right and i just have to lean by doing more.

im interested what speakers youŽd recommend if the focal solos are not enough. i dont have the money for a pair of MM27s. and my research says focal solos should be enough for decent monitoring.

you don't learn to mix on the net man.. agree with dh it s mostly on the experience ,focal solo are more than good enought i m sure..even my cms are imo..what matter is to know the monitors really well.
your problem is about getting a more expensive commercial sound, i think you should experiment with some plug that can polish your source ,eq and maybe some kind of tube/tape sat, exciter maybe, stuff like this..or use already polished sample like i suggested.
you need some meat and thickness it come from the low/low mids and more silky highs.

the pro mix/master since years, decades with top equipments! we are amateurs man, we don t play in the same league..it need experience and working with top equipments can t hurt that for sure but it s not a option... try more with your tools you can get very close i m sure, it s your fist attempt in that style of music, you need to spend more time into it.
dont foget mastering too,it s possible to make something that sound itb almost otb but don t rely just on this...the better the mix the best the final product is

if they could avoid booking studio like this and do everyhting itb they would man ! if they pay and use stuff like this it cause it give them something they don't get itb.
you can get great result itb anyway but if you comapre it too some otb stuff, it might turn more sterile and lacking dimension ,it s way more tricky itb to nail what some gears do to your sound naturally when it stack up on top of each other, how it compress the transients ,add hamrmonics and stuff like this...

otb production is out of the box , some hardware is used ,ususally hybrid set up ,using hardware and software at what they do best
