Hi..
I read a few things about this but it didnt really help me. I was wondering on my last .wav file
how to make it sound Louder ?
I mix my tracks on Traktor and it isnt as loud as the other tracks. I have to turn the gain up.
also the Hi's seem to be a bit dull compared to the other tracks.
can someone pls help me
thanks

Do it to the mixed .wav file

Read this: it'll explain about loudness (first couple of paragraphs) i.e limiting and attenuation etc...

http://www.johnvestman.com/compression.htm

Good luck... remember though don't overcompress:

Too many people looking for louder and louder tracks at the moment... we need more dynamics!! (IMHO)

I also would suggest looking into some sort of maximizer. The waves maximizers are pretty good, I tend to use them... but I also would suggest looking into Isotope Ozone. I am really looking into having more of a dynamic range with my tracks, but it's also difficult when you are mixing tracks that are on released compilations that have less of the dynamic range.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

well for guys who dont have much idea about compression and mastering .... i wouldnt advice either of the two methods suggested above ...

1.izotope ozone
2. compression on the master

both of these methods can easily destroy all the hard work youve done to make the mix sound good ... wrong compression settings on the master will just kill the dynamics of the trk and make the mix sound suddenly lame ...

and izotope ozone as far as i know ... has some presets , which again are way too lame and once again if u try to individually tweak specific settings
chances of ruining the mix are high ....

so as far as i can adivce ... for the time being ..just ue limiter on the master and set threshold to anywhere between -3 to -6 db ... where it sounds best .... until you just learn to mix better and louder !

take care and good luck

use the waves L2.
works fast and well. and its easy to handle if you have no plan.

or use cubase vst 5, overdrive the channel (killer algorithm, old israeli trick)

Ok as mentioned before Izotope Ozone can do magic to ur mix.
But if u just want to pump the volume use L3 Ultramaximiser, if u also want to change ur spectrum/sound u can also try the L3 Multimaximiser.

With the L3 u can make ur tracks very loud.            Signature

Don't bother with this. If you want to release a track, a label will do the mastering for you. If you DON'T want to release the track, there are quite a few ways to deal with this.

The moment you apply compression to your main mix you will accentuate every mixing mistake you made. If you don't have enough trebles and compress the f*ck out of the track, it will sound worse in the trebles then before. Generally, if you have a clean mix, you can use waves L2 and add 2-3db to the gain without damaging your sound much. More than that and you will invent mix problems that don't exist by clipping.

Using the search gave me a few good threads on this subject:
