How to create that percussion line that begins at 0:53 ?
It is also similar to Bizzare Contact percussion lines in his songs from Plastic Fantastic

well what do u wanna know specificaly?

choosing the right samples is probably the first thing. hihats, percussions and clap/snares have to fit together nicely, forming a good groove. u can do that by tuning them and playing with the volume envelope. also compressors which come close to volume envelope. attack and release settings are important. of course the velocity also plays a big roll.

as far as i can hear it at 0:53 there comes in a clap, an onbeat closed hihat playing on every kickdrum and another hihat/shaker/perc whatever playing on 1/16, 3/16 and 4/16. and so forth. maybe a very quiet one on 2/16 too. play with the velocity there. its an important part. but im not too sure, could be wrong too.im not a pro yet, you know

hope i could help you.

Sounds like nice tribal loops to me more like percussions (bongo ones). But i think sound selection, timing/shuffle, note length/velocity/panning makes the overall sound, so you have to go with the flow and make them swing and drive. I think there is no only one formula for that, but as unique as separate tracks are.

Grouping+compressing percussion lines make sense to me. Lot of people use UAD fairchild for that i know..

One of my favourite tracks and absolute king of tribal loops is Astrix, he just makes them drive so nicely. This is one of the best tracks he made, i think.

Funny thing the drive concept I think most of it comes from the actual groove and loop composition.

One of the key things in 4x4 EDM is the snare to open hat relationship which imo is essential... it's like the backbone for this driving feel.

You know what helps a lot? Some theory then practice... like if you look around the net you can find info on rythm and percussion. Everything is about contrast and alternating strong and weak steps in clever ways. Then practice with your hand, mouth and whatever.

It takes a while to come with original selfmade driving loops... and one becomes more picky with time but don't worry you'll get there.

Lately I like to use distortion on drumloops made of toms and metallic percussion (no hihats), when well placed they give a lot of... well humm, drive

Remember to feel and dance to your percussion. Start by making it simple but effective... hihats, snares and your offbeat element (OH or something clever). You can always change the basic 4 on the floor layout but if you are inexperienced just keep it the standard way.

Then when it's working add other stuff that you feel is good... u can bounce it to audio and repeat the process a couple of times so you have multimple interesting loops, then mash up your percussion, layer it, eq, compress and profit.

Lot of good responses, want to add to experiment with delay, you can get more things going on with less elements, sometimes it's all you need to fill some gap in groove.
Soundtoys EchoBoy is my favorite

Been using since I saw that trick on everything, basically it's Soundtoys Filter Freak on rhythm mode just filtering in & out, making nice pumping feel and immediately killing all monotony of ordinary snare hit for example, one hit is filtered in, next is filtered out, both sound different and interesting, so do that stuff on most of the elements and you injected more life.

Try applying some swing, it gives you better feel than locked grid piano roll type of placement also triplets

Another good one, you can hear how percussions are carefully panned from beginning to make more large feeling, very fat percussion lines in this track.

That filterfreak on rhythm mode is working very good and add taste spice to any element.

I wonder how you tune the percussion sounds without the sound quality decreasing.
More than 1 semitone up or down really messes up the quality here.

switch off time warp or similar option in your daw. normally, incearsing or decreasing pitch doesnt kill quality of the sound           http://www.beatport.com/release/cross-the-atoms/1042450

use kontakt/ battery /maschine/ geist to tunes but yeah it degrade but it may still better than not suited tuning.. avoid big change specially on sound with transients it may sound less good faster

I dont mind pichshifting or other tuning if the source is good enough means that be sure that your source sample is as maximum quality as it can be before you start processing it in future.. Main thing is always your source, sample or not..
