How to make Decoration?

I used the search and found nothing.
I'm a beginner in the Art of make decorations.
Already did some deco for my own parties, but only fluor paintings with sprays, and just for fun and relax...
What I'm searching for is a "Tutorial", a "How to" make rigid structures (like the stars and geometric forms with WOOD and THREAD we see at parties).
Hope someone can help me with links or real info.
