Hi ! Im trying to make a good subbass
but i have some problems to achieve what i want.
when i use one synth to make a subbass i often end up with a clean sound but with a lack of bass frequencis and power.
That´s why i started to layer several basses
to get more power, but then i end up with
a muddy mix .How can i achieve a clean powerful basssound without getting a muddy mix ?

subbass like they use in dnb or for a psytrance bassline? for psytrance if the energy of the bass is too high and sound more close to a lead than a real bass try a high shelf 100 to 1000 hz with -5 to -10 db just try to find good setting for your track but the best is to use a synth that don t need it...

its all in the filter cutoff - you probably need way more high frequencies then you think you do.
I set up my filters with the cutoff at 0, then control it all with the env, decay and sustain knobs.
The env knob is normally around aboutish 75% open - sometimes more, sometimes less - it all depends.

there are numerous ways to achieve it.getting the source sound right is essential. try using 2 oscilators, 1 saw, and 1 sine. the sine has less harmonics than the saw, results in lower sound, mix them appropriatley.also the are bass processors which help aswell.

for sub bass, there`s some effects that compress that low end like Rbass or MaxxBass. you can also use simple EQ boost around 40hz-65hz

ive always been very intrerested to find out how acts like son kite do their sub bass.
it has that sub bass sound but even if you have speakers that cant do sub bass it sounds full and subbassey
i used to have a pair of genelec 1029'a which were really clear but only went down to 70hz... my mackies now go down to 30hzish but the sonkite bass sounds just as smooth and subby on both speakers...its like magic hehe.
have a nice day

it can be achieved if there are some harmonics in the bassline, that the sub-bass sound would have, and the rest of the low-end is build in your brain-)
so the physical presense of that low-freqs isn't neccesarry.

Sidechain the bass to a good kick, then load an eq and filter out the wild frequencies, use a wavegraph to see where you have to cut frequencies and where you might elevate. Depending on how much you want a subbass you can either manipulate the frequs with the sidechainer or (probably but not necessarily preferrable) the eq. Remember to use a highpassfilter and cut the first minimum 20hz. The higher herz you cut, the louder the bass can go and the less subbass... Round that out with a multiband compressor or something like Quadrafuzz (essentially more or less the same)

Depending on how manyu cutof poles you use you might have to set the hz cutoff higher. In your case I guess a brickwall might do just fine? artists like on kite usually use 2 or even 3 bass tracks.
one for really low sub-bass, usually achive with sine wave and another one for the snap sound usually a saw wave.
