Do you mean phrases?

Phrases are simply separations in ideas of a track where a new sound is introduced or taken away. Most psytrance is written in 32 bar phrases. This is when you should bring in the next track when mixing.           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

8 bars (32 beats) are enough. count from beat 1 (i.e. after a break or whatever) 8 bars and than bring in beat 1 of other track. where exactly you do is about knowing the tracks.

Having spun several other different genres, I find psytrance takes more effort/knowledge of your tracks to match up phrases in the songs. I attribute this to the randomness of the soundscape, & odd pauses that psytrance can frequently have. Not difficult, just takes a little more precision.

I use loops & cuepoints on most songs to bend it to my will, instead of vice versa. (And also because I like to ride my mixes long)

Nothing worse than having a mix going and your one track drops the bass for a bar, then you hear the click-click-click-click of the other track's kick with its bass cut come through.

Hate that.

Take a listen to a mix called Mystic Revelation by Basilisk off ektoplazm (might be with an s not a z).net

I consider that a flawless mix, Absolutely seamless mixing and long blends.
