its like tuning a guitar....
listen to the sample / sound: first get close enough to the octave that the sound is in on your keyboard....
then, move across the keeys, playing each key and listening to the original sample or better if you could hear both of them simultaneously....
sometimes you may not be able to get anywhere near the pitch of tha sound / sample and the actual note on the keyboard. If this happens, change the sound of the keyboard and try with another one.
As majority of the people here have said, this can mainly be achieved only through ear / listening

What do you think about looking at fundamental and harmonics frequencies in a spectroscope? |

I recommend by ear too - in fact the programs that 'decode' it for you aren't always accurate.
Proof: try running a sample through both Celemony Melodyne and Cubase VariAudio - I quite often got different results for the same sample. |

who needs waveforms! i can tell you the pitch out of the sample title, even if you rename it 3 times!
on topic - i'm with the ear gear here.

now siriously i think only by ear is very confusing
not every one can be 100% accurate and most analyzers don't show you by the cent if by the note at all
i think tsabeats answer is very good
i wish there was a program that calculates the pitch and puts the key in brackets
so u could manage whole libraries
anybody knows about one?
