I wonder how you can make a monothone track and keep it intereesting.
I believe the most difficult part in a track is to keep the drums interessting.
I usally have a few patterns with drums
but in every song i make the drums get boring , and they lack a lot of dynamics (change´s in the sound which makes them sound really boring)How can i avoid this ?
Please help me out

i think for drums u can try small rolls ... like a pick up when its going to kick in .. or a short roll here n there .. just 2 or 3 hits ... try to add more of these small elements it makes it interesting ... also try to layer couple of loops n make a new one out of it ... and try sum live kit drumming type program like addictive drum too ...

I'm doing a pretty monotonous tune at the moment and I'm trying not to use any melody... much harder than I thought.

I'm keeping the drums quite simple as to just run along with the bass, but I think it sounds cool if you start with a few slow sounds, then maybe change to a stabby sound that goes on for a bit with some gentle variation in the background, then have lots a different stabby sounds.

Just got to keep the energy just right I guess.

I always find it much harder to have a dramatic change that fits with the rest of the track when I'm not using a variety of notes.

Automation automation and did I mention automation? And I don't just mean filter but also lfo is your friend and such things like envelope automation can also help! The sky is the limit...
Vary your hihats, unexpected fx also contribute. Just make it variable, you can do so with relatively few elements...

Really ........you need to create an atmosphere

Try some really smooth pads that evolve under the track ....
I used to bounce out an 8 bar loop of just my kick and bass and create a long .....like 64 bars or more section and create atmospheres using huge reverbs and take in as many samples and synths in the key of your bass and smoothly blend them together with crossfades and reverb .........then bounce out the resulting file (without the bass and kick ) and insert it into sections of the track that ist seemed suitable

you can also try some percussive sounds like clicks or bleeps or even effects on "off beat" positions and what i like to build in are loops from whole different genres           Radioactive.Cake - intelligent dark minimal psygressive

I think monotone tracks have something like a ''storytelling''...you have to keep the whole thing ''tripping'' from one theme to another and back with feeling variations of melodies or atmospheres...

some instances :
Atmos - Klein aber Doctor
Psykovsky vs Dejavu : Only love

monotone but G R E A T tracks...they keep your thoughts & feelings alive!!!

You can put some drum loops with a highpass filter in the back of your basic kick hihat snare track.

You can create rhythmic FM synthesis 16th note patterns that run very softly in the background (helps keep the track feel like it's moving fast even when the drums become half time or you're in a slow moving part of a song)

You can use the kick, snare, and hihat to make drums in any genre you want, and use that in your song. Have a latin salsa section, or a rock and roll section, or a metal section, or a tango, there are NO rules here.

You can do a 3/4 time change.

Glitch the snare/clap out for a nice variety of sounds that you can utilize throughout the song.

Utilize bit crushers. I especially like them on hihats - especially Battery's bit crusher. It's my favorite.

Have fun. You don't always have to be k bbb k+snarebbb. Sliding the bass out will open up different rhythms as well.           www.musicproductionnatural.com || www.facebook.com/djamoeba | facebook page
