dude! Read the tutorials better!
you have to: drop your instrument (VSTi?) in an empty lane, then (very important) set the RECORD button ON (in your synth's track in the mixer view). It wont really record, but you will be able to ear your instrument.
i dont know if that is what you wanted to know but....

you have to set the ' audio to ' which is by default set to the master out channel, to the channel you wanna route it throught... you have to set the monitoring to 'auto' or 'in' and hit both main and lanes record button so you can start recording and listening.
