Hey empty,

why don't you check what you're saying before you copy and paste long pages?

Threshold is applying not only to compression- threshold means where to start effecting the audio in db(in a easy statement)- it's can be compression, it's can be ultramaximizing and it's can be some other effect- whatever.

if you ask me, the best way to get a good level in a mix is to use LOUD sounds .,
i mean, if the sounds have too much dynamics then no multiband mastering compressor is going to make it sound right.,.,.

i screwed up multiple projects by not compressing individual sounds and thinking that it will get fixed at mastering.,

so start working on loudness from the start.,.,
then you will have good loudness in the end.,

Even it's preferable it's not critical to work loud from the first place as long as the channels balance and the total mix is good,

you can push the volume up at the end with no problems,

That's how i do it when my exported wave is not so loud,           Space is the place

i think that everything depends on the material you start with.,
i found myself with good mixes when you listen to them on their own and they had a lot of dynamics and space.,
but when you compare them to other music they are not loud enough.,
and using mastering tools couldnt help it cause there was just too much dynamics going on.,.,

it's all relative but if you think your mix is not loud enough and you have troubles compressing it without hurting some sounds then you need to start working on loudness much earlier in a project.,

but it all depends on the style as well.,
a minimal track will be much easier to compress as one whole than a 50+ tracks tune.,

my idea is that you should work with sounds that have some 'attitude' from start.,

Sorry Input but you did say

Waves L1 can push the volume up without clipping.
All you need to do is adjust the threshold setting to the value of desired gain (a threshold of 9dB results in an overall 9dB gain in volume) the music sounds unchanged, except for being louder.

Input I didn't post those three pages to refute what you said, please. Even if you had not said anything I still would have posted them.

When you said "All you need to do is adjust the threshold setting to the value of desired gain", I took it literaly, thinking Waves L1, L2 only had one control, Threshold. Silly me.

I do try and take some care when posting. Before copying and posting I said "Input that is not what threshold means, threshold is the level when the compressor starts kompreszing" and seeing as we are talking about compressors I stand by that totaly, that is what threshold means, it doesn't mean the level it is going to get boosted by, that is just a biproduct of the Output Celing control. If the Output Celing is set at -30 it doesn't matter where the threshold is at.

I totally understand what you are saying, now I have had a look at the L1 manual.
