As a thumbrule, i never consider the exported track (from FL, Reason etc) to be the final product.
i usually run it through wavelab and use compression, limiting etc to enhance the quality of the track. well, this is getting a bit off-topic, so back to topic.
Like Jeto said, proper eqing could be the key. Another possibility is to export the track in WAV using the highest quality possible (use all possible options like "Tiny Dithering", "Alias" etc -- sorry i don't remember the options offhand)...hope this helps |

Try using a high-pass filter, and roll off frequencies below 100-500 Hz. on all instruments, except kick & Bass. If you do this, you make room for the bass & kick.
Also try a low cut below 20-30 Hz on the kick & bass to lose some low frequency rumble.
Then check which instruments are playing at the same time (clashing) when the song sounds muddy. Isolate the problem, and solve it by panning those instruments to different locations, cutting (eq-ing) overlapping frequencies of those instruments that are not really important or removing one of the instruments alltogether.
Most of the time you don't need to have many musical elements playing at the same time anywayz, because the listener can only pay attention to a few at a time.
You may also want to try compression and limiting to make some instruments sound more powerful and to make the mix a bit louder.
Good luck... |

Compression & eq.
That's what you need.

iff the track sounds flat in a bad way in the beggining whatever you do in the mastering departement will not fix it you need the track to sound as lively you can before mastering so it can become pro clean and sparkiling after the mastering
use better eq and compression in the making prosses and you will see that not much eq is needed in mastering stage only some compression and limiting to bring it up
i sey all that from my personal experience and this is not absolit you can do whatever you think sounds better

DJPsYbAbA,i think that u need to cut 20-30 Hz an than put limiter like L3(waves plugs).
by the way oll this prosess is in the wavelab.
good luck

somtime a lack of of high frequenices make the sound a bit dull. check if your mixes contains highs. |

i only agree with mike a here .... u need to improve on the general mixing to be very short and precise ..

I will suggest you to learn compression as well , try to group channels together and compressing them using side chain or simple compression .
Grouping In mixer - This would allow you to work on both channels together at once
--------------------------------------------
Connect FX channel 2(for example kick) <out> and FX channel 3 (for example bass) <out> to FX channel 4 .
Side Chain - Should make signal cut by another signal at chain , which is helpful for bass + kick connection
-----------------------------------------
For sidechaining i would recommend TCWorks Native Bundle v3+ with side chain abillity since i don't sure how to use side chain in Waves Diamond 5.0 which is great also . (Just think about fame using 5000$ plugins , i almost cum).
On TCWorks Native Bundle v3 , load first sidechain effect on certain channel as 1 and side chain effect two as 2 , load compressor - deesser (from same pack only) on other fx channel and tweak until you find right sounding .
Equalizing
------------------------------------------
For equalizing , won't advice you to work with it unless you sure you can't afford to keep certain frequency range , because i do trust on ppl who do samples more than on myself , for VSTi better to use internal processing such filtering inside of VSTi than external EQ .
Now more on your question , is the same sound you hear after export/render is the sound you hear inside of Fruity Loops ? Because from you question i understand that you somehow pointing on "after exporting it sounds flat " . Flat means that frequency response of your track near the mid line which is good i think , what do you mean by flat also ?
thanks |

I would also check and make sure you are not over compressing everything. Compression is a great tool, but I have been noticing a trend where everyone seems to be compressing damn near everything, and rather heavily too. Compression can pull out certain freq.s in your sounds well, but it can also kill all the dynamics of a tracks and thus should be applied carefully as it simply is ALWAYS nessecary, especially with electronic music, which doesn't generally have the huge dynamic range that live instruments do. Sound design is the most important aspect and if compression is called for, by all means use it, but it definately is needed on every part of every track (if you don't believe me, do some searching for the thread in which Deedrah replied about how he didn't use compression on the bass of Reload, etc, for a more "professional" opinion on the subject).
