How to handle "losing" your favorite artist...?

I imagine most of us have gone through this a few times, at different points in our psy-lives: There is one particular artist who is just perfect for you, for a time. Maybe not everything they put out, but at least some of their music satisfies everything that you want from psytrance, those tunes that you can just listen to over and over, and their is just something utterly magical about the way they effect you - hair stand up on the back of your neck, goosebumps, tears in your eyes, stuff like that.

...and then they just change direction totally, and stop making music that has that effect on you. How do you handle this?

Most recently for me it was Bliss, back in 2005-2007, specifically the tracks "Upside Down" "Final Cut" and "Around the Little End". Those tracks captured almost perfectly the essence of everything I wanted from psytrance, but in a way that seems impossible for me to describe. His more recent releases are very different (for the worse, imo) and just don't have that special effect.

Asking for track/artist recommendations almost always seems useless, because while there are certainly other artists/tracks who have some stylistic/sound/compositional similarities, none of these characteristics capture the essence of what is special about those songs.

thoughts?

Has happened many times over the years for me. As the taste of music-listeners change over time, so does the taste of artists - remember they are listeners as well. It's only natural.

I still have some favorite artists I have followed for many years, but there's no need to be emotionally attached to a particular artist. If there's better music out there, that's all that matters, right?

You are definitely right about that, and I always seem to periodically find artists who bring me that amazing amount of joy, but each time it's in unique and very different ways (Principles of Flight, at the moment).

I guess I'm just frustrated that the time of unique resonance between myself as a listener/DJ and my favorite artists always seems to be limited...

I keep them in my basement, fed on a diet of raw mung beans, diet jolt cola and hashish.
That is what happens when I "lose" my favourite artist.
I must have twenty or thirty down there....

you mean to ask when will Infected Mushroom make a track with Eminem or Snoop Dogg? I hope soon...or when will Skazi make a track with NIN or Marlyn Manson?

I cannot rule out a collaboration between Marylin Manson and Skazi. As the careers of both of them are going nowhere fast. NIN and Skazi though? Good joke there sir.

I was sad when I heard Hydraglyph stopped producing since they were one of the first acts I listened to when I first found psytrance           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I think in most cases, I've changed as much as the music has changed... I suppose I should just keep doing what I've done, keeping my ears open for music which I haven't heard before and might end up liking
