try to get the background noise without the voice (equalizing it) then export the background noises to wav, next flip the phase on that piece of audio, and paste it over the original audio, now the inverted piece of audio will cancel out the normal background sounds in the original file, and, as you only filtered out the vocals, it will leave the vocals intact!
(its what i read )
with the overtone tone of Radiance.

I would try a combination of x noise and a good eq, since the voices are most important in the 600-6000hz range you can pretty much eq the other freqs out, just make sure your bandpassfilter is not too narrow or it will sound like a telephone... and use voices with relatively low background sound.

Actually I'm running into a problem. I just picked up M-Audio's Audiophile USB last week and noticed over the weekend that WaveLab 5 no longer picks up audio from the soundcard while anything is playing (DVD, MP3 player, etc).
Anybody have a clue what connection I'm missing? I have the Input selected to "Audio card input" and within the settings window for that option I have Playback set to "MME-WDM Audiophile Out 1/2" and the Recording set to "MME-WDM Audiophile In 1/2."
In my previous studio setup I had the Audiophile 2496 soundcard in my desktop tower and that recorded from all sources without a hitch. But I can't figure out what's up. There is definitely a signal in the phase scope in a stereo field...but there's no sound picked up when recording.
Any clue? WaveLab has no problem playing files, nor do any of my other programs have any issues with getting sounds out of the soundcard...but this is really bugging me.
Advice or known fixes would be greatly appreciated.
Peace,
Jim |

Well after waiting 40 minutes on hold, I finally got through to M-Audio tech support. Long story short, the Audiophile USB drivers aren't made to support what he called "audio hijacking" and the only way to record audio with the USB is to have it physically attached to the INs on the back of the unit.
So lesson learned. When I want to lift samples I just unplug the USB and enable the on-board soundcard which does allow for hijacking (he said that's common with most multimedia soundcards).
Workaround found.
Hope this helps someone in the future.
Peace,

Thanks for the links, but I'm quite happy with the work around for my situation.
I've been lifting audio like this for several years...this was just the first time I've encountered a soundcard not being able to do it.
Peace,

Background Sound Removal Hmmmmmmm
You Can Eq It To Sound Better!!!
But When I Select My Samples I Generally Pick Out Those Which Have Pure Vocal And No Background Sounds Adding Effects To It Makes It Sound More Killer Coz Backgroung Sounds Smoke Up The Actual Vocal Effect Ur Looking For!!! |

| I'll second you on that one. I think EQ works great to remove most of the background sound and then adding FX to it to further enhance or cover up unwanted sound.
