Hi

is this the best way to get the best quality?:

- export in the sequencer (reason for example) in 24-bit 96 khz
- convert with wavelab for example to mp3 in 16-bit, 320 kbit/s 44 khz..

it depends.,
usually this is a good way of doing things.
but with reason i noticed that the sound is totaly different when you compose in 16 or in 24 bits.
if you made your track in 16 bits and export in 24 bits then it will sound a little different.,
if you composed it in 24 bits and export it in 16 bits then it will also sound different.,
if you composed in 24 bit but need a 16 bits final then you should do what you said., then it will sound the same.,
if you composed and mixed in 16 bit then you propably want to export in 16 bits too.,
but you should experiment a bit.,., see what sounds best.,

grts.,

dunno about quirks in reason to do with word length/sample rate...

but if you are making mp3 files then any quality coming from high sample rate/word length is gonna be thrown out the window.....

mp3 is a lossy file format, designed for general consumer audio applications, not for high level music production....

if you have some need of the mp3 format e.g. posting the file on a website then that's cool but dont worry about wordlength/sample rate... just use 16bit 44kHz....
