Hi !
Im working on a song which im quite pleased with, but i have a problem, the bass it sticks out to much i believe the mixing is quite ok but i would like to have the bass
more in the background.I´ve tried adding a small amount of reverb but that doesn´t either help, tried to pan it a bit but no the problem remains.Anyone who have any suggestion, could i use a phase converter and what does it do to the sound ?

Best regards Conny

I presume that dropping the volume a bit doesn't help.

Reducing any compression on the bassline will help make it seem farther away.

Attenuating the upper frequencies can help.

If there are *any* frequencies around 5000Hz in the b-line, cut them out.

If none of these tricks work then you may need to do the EQing on your kick and bass over, putting more EQ on the bass than on the kick so that it is less prominant.

Hope that helps!

if the bass don`t sound as you want him to sound, then the mix is not o.k!
maybe you boosted the bass too much?
maybe its too loud (in db)?
maybe it contains frequencies that "cover" your other parts?
all of those affect your mix, so try different mixes until it sound like you want it to sound!

billy ambulance ofcourse you are right.
the mix isn´t allright, i allways end up with a boomy bas sound which drones everything else
Fuzzikitten i will try what you said about the compression and cut at 5000 hz

Glad it worked!

Also, if the bass is 'boomy' you might have too much in the sub-end (40Hz and lower) that drowns out the rest of the track.

Many ways to 'massage' a sound.

Happy tweaking.

dont you guys mean 500 hz?
5000 is a little high for bass

anyway to eq a bass properly you need a to use a good eq like the waves q10 and not some shity eq like the one in the cubase mixer i use 7 differtent q's to get my bass sound properly ,compression is also important
but eq is the hard part.

5000Hz seems to be a 'magic' frequency for making sounds sound farther away. Whenever I want to make a sound more distant in the mix I always start by cutting the 5000Hz range and see how it goes.
