Hey all,
Working on some of my beginner tracks and in all the tutorials I've covered I've not seen lot on really warping out vocals like you might see with Shpongle or Younger Brother, and other psytrance.
There's a million examples of this range of effect I could post, but here's a good one:
Check out minutes 1:31; 3:22; 4:55 and other spots thru the song.
There's some pitch bending, and I'm not sure what else going on here. What gets me is the fluidity and speed of the morphing. This isn't just a straight forward vocal gating, delay, or running thru a simple vocoder?
What might be some good ideas on plugins and effects to run samples thru to get similar, 'loose' effects? I'm not sure how I'd get started with something similar.
Any advice is most appreciated. I've heard of using Melodyne for this, but just thought I'd ask for second opinions. Thanks much

listening to Simon's vocal twisting is aggravating. THE FUCK DO YOU DO THAT
But yeah, I'm pretty sure that I saw somewhere that he uses Melodyne for his vocal stuff - though I'm sure he uses a bunch of other arcane wizardry too that us mortals don't have access to If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

a difficult one. glide and pitch correction is pretty much sure, for the other effects i'd say a tweaked phaser (simon loves phasers, experiment a lot and you'll occasionally stumble upon a sound that totally sounds like hallucinogen) and maybe a bit of buffer override?

At 1:33 it sounds like the vocals
were modulated through a
(guitar) wahwah pedal...

sounds like a wahwah fx or phaser type plug in at the 1.33 min mark.
with some pitch editing plug in like newtone, pitcher, melodyne etc... that you can control the pitch and length etc.. via midi patters so they can just jam and edit the notes to the vocals until they sound how they want. That would be my first step in this direction. with some phaser or flanger modulation you could get something similar or still very cool!
auto tune at the later vocal near the end is quite obvious, but also has alot of fx modulation and some extra pitch bending and filtering of the vocal itself... this track is awesome hehe i wish to know the techniques used!
