How to get over cheese?

In this hard times when we all must unite and be strong, when 303, squelches and pitchers are overused and groovy arpeggio lines have been prostituted.

What is left to do? How to think? How to keep the psy vibe and still develop a new style?

I know there are no rules, or a specific guide but i seek healthy discussion and perhaps tips on how to proceed when crafting teh psytrance.

Is it weird chord progressions? is it messsing with random or generative music? break rules of structure or make malodies with conga sample instead of supersaw?

I finally came to a point in which my music sounds standard enough to be maybe released but i have nothing new or really fresh to offer a given audience.

My non psy works sound much more freestyle and prolly with a higher creative aim, that is no problem right now, but whenever i try to make psytrance with an original flavor i feel disappointed after working in sounds that are cool but won't sound anything like trance at all and i end up coming back to old FM leads and pitchy sounds to get that psytrance dancefloor feel which i love.

In a way I love cheese, you know, all those sounds that made me fell into this genre but now i realize they belong to the past and i really would like to have a special something to offer to the world.

Not expecting any of you to tell me exactly what to do but... in your personal journey how do you deal with authenticity and with the ethical responsibility of making psytrance evolve rather than keep the same sounding bass, leads and overall fx for another 10 years.

How to keep balance between elements that made psytrance what it is but still give it enough spice to take this music to the next level. Or is good music just good music regardless of time and space or how much sounds have been used in the past. The old drop to raw bassline that will be forever epic.

Thanks for your time and insight.

Making something that is smooth and perfect, even more polished can make it appear plastic.

Stop listening to psytrance and only produce what makes you move           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

Thats the reason I don't listen to psytrance anymore...Its all more like clubtrance, same shit, different arrangement.
Where are the times of Cosma? So simple arrangement, and yet with so much soul and emotion.Looks like not much people have soul left in em..

But yea,the raw bassline and kickity kick still sounds awesome           From all the things I lost, that sandwitch cost me most :)

I don't realy think it's all about sounds, sure here and there are some real breakthroughs,i don't know when did the so called dark side started, and like it or not it was a new thing. I'm a cheesy kinda guy also, but got fed-up with the morning full-on, not because of the sounds by itself, but because of how the sounds were used, those 30 to 30 secs breaks killed me on the floor, but i imagine one ends up doing what one likes, and if you make it good why not show it?
And man, sometimes, the old drop to raw bassline is pure bliss

evolution of electronic music and the tools used can be linked.new tools and workflow can lead to evolution in sounds. electronic music is dependent of the technologie in a way. new synthesis and production technics can leads to new fresh sounds..but all this is more about production than music..imo no need to try to sound fresh , music is made to have some fun that the only thing that really matter and it s the way we make the best music .

labels with their formated sounds formated our brains , when we make something different it can even feel wrong cause it s just too different and you know it will be hard to release it cause of this... but labels are less and less needed imo it will open lot of doors for artists to release unformated music.

Ah but it does! It sounds like your trance. I believe that you can get away with almost anything, as long as you follow through with conviction. Just make the music you want to hear, and make it as good as you possibly can.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

yeah, i stopped worrying about how good or bad my tracks are, cause i just enjoy the process of writing and learning. i listen to other guys, and i'm like "wow, these folks spend alot of time on this, good for them!" and then i turn it off and go about my synth noodlin.

I know, what about completely stop using saw waves and make everything with square waves instead? im sure that will make your kicks sound pretty different.
