Hey guys!

Recently I've been doing some long session work recording/mixing/producing a bunch of friends bands, and having a blast doing so
Usually when we make electronic music, we are focused on all our tasks and end up with the "loopetitis syndrome", but it's our own stuff that we're making and we end up falling into our own trance while doing so - it's our stuff, tough luck, suck it up.
But when you end up having another band's tune in your head for about 2 weeks straight because you spend a few hours listening to the same 3 minutes back-to-back (recording over and over again the different parts in stems, or mixing parts in), it sucks And to worsen it off, some of the tunes are quite catchy, so they just settle in the background and stay there

What do you guys do in such occasions to surpass this issue? I imagine that professional recording / mixing engineer / producer working long sessions (or sound tech guys working on tours) would constantly having this issue, any tips or tricks to share?           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz

I sometimes do work for other people as well. And some of the tunes, regardless of how I really feel about them have this tendency to stick with us. True.
Myself, I feel the way to get rid of anything is to actually finish it. And to keep some of my own work going, even if it's just some sound design sessions or something. I mean, surely this new experiences must give you some insights and no matter how different it is from your stuff, if you go to your stuff from a completely different angle, or with some knowledge you've gained from something else, then you may just hit something weird and unique, that's ultimately the goal - except when you're into having tons of fans and gigs (sometimes I let the dark humor take over, pardon me eheh).

Another thing that tends to happen when dealing with other music besides your own, is that you're usually able to approach it in a much more rational way. You know what you have to do and you do it, knowing that the route towards completion is a simple matter of taking it step by step and making sure it all comes together nicely.

In some ways, I think it's useful to import some of that spirit back into our own sessions, later on. The willingness to compromise, to move forward, to come up with ways or methods to approach some idea, maybe a technically challenging one, or a difficult to tame performance...

When you think about how you're going to come up with something, you're actually being creative.

What I mean, and I hope I'm not digressing much here, is that we're usually much more 'straight to the point' when dealing with stuff from other people. We surely need to know why and we must do our best to treat our stuff, after the creative part is laid out, as any other project.

I listen to something completely different in between.
Death metal cleans my ear very well... Sometimes an episode of family guy is also helpful. I just try to distract myself as good as possible.
But sometimes you just have to have a break for a month/week on tune I know exactly what you mean...           https://soundcloud.com/fungophago

Even after 2 years I have tunes that hit my memory on regular basis. Though this wasn't usual band, way a musical for children with lovely songs I cooproduced with a composer from vienna. Its about animals and some tracks are touching my heart from time to time than I hear the recordings, some tracks reminds me on beatles or something from the late 60ies or 70ies
I know this state aswell, but it happend me like 10% out of all the recordings I was involved in as an audio enginner or cooproducer. There was a death metal band I recorded once, was like this in my head for long time, but mostly that were quality female voices for pop music that settled down my memory for great feeling and unique power etc.
Take it as it is If its good than be glad for a good memory of the whole action and if not than maybe listen to some Pink Floyd Ummagumma in a mind expanding state or something or some other psychedelic band. If its part of your job and you actually dont like it, than just concentrate on the audio engineering itself and do you best possbilbe qualit job. A bit of experimentation here and there can make the focus simpler.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden
