'When the student is ready the teacher will appear' -This can be applied to labels, when your music is good enough labels will show up.Don't force it...

C'mon there are tons of great artists out there (and here) that just cant get signed.
I (not being part of a label) believe this is more about the industry than the music. Yeah the music should be good, but that just doesn't cut it, you still need the social skills and some knowledge of how the clock tics, how the business side of music goes.
I also believe there is somewhat of a difference between psy (and other non-mainstream music) labels and the big guys in this, as the scene is smaller and way less profitable, but nevertheless labels always see music as an enterprise, and the best way to get noticed is to know how to "sell your name" (not sell out, but self-promotion).
What do all you think? Please prove me wrong
Also, what are your tips for self-promotion?

never spamming is the main advice there.
otherwise it's the same way as other music genre.
get in touch with the label and wait
i guess that today it's easier to release with the amount of labels. |

Hmmm I have different approach.
Since my last release has been 2 years.
I stopped releasing music cuz I wanted to work on quality instead of quantity.
I believe now is the time to contact some bigger labels, because I think I have reached that point when I should start with good, solid, quality releases..
Problem Is, I dont have facebook, or soundcloud or anything else
I waited long enough and now is the time to share my music with other people. I dont care about money..
So should I expect any problems because I dont like social networks and spamming around?

i don't see in soundcloud something like facebook. it's only for music so i guess you should.
how to share your music if you don't use sharing website ? |

some labels have e-mail adresses or online forms for submitting demos.
but i agree that soundcloud is completely different from facebook. i wouldn't be on soundcloud otherwise. |

release something on Ektoplasm or similar first. Get your music into the aether.
Good way to get your music heard and start building a fan base.

making good music!! that would be apealing to release might help to caught some label atention...
the problem is, most of people dont produce music good enough to be released, Yet, they think they should sent it to labels, wich results in filled "demo emails" with requests, and due to that its harder to labels take serious most of contacts
its better to just expose your music/material on social networks, earn fans and then naturaly someone will be interested, try to not rush things... get matured as artist and people will notice about you if your good...
but currently i dont see many benifits on releasing on labels (at least most of them...)
only a few labels can garantee good spotlight and solid releases, the others work on a very amateur basis, you will end up releasing stuff that very few people will consume, and will not create a big impact on your gig´s invitations or whatever your dream off about being signed by a label
trust-me... i know! |

yes that the thing to be careffull.. if you have spent lot of time on your music and trust in his quality, don t underate your work by releasing on labels that won t really help you , you won t get any benefits from it .. it would be exaclty like uploading your tunes direclty on warez i guess |

for me it depends on 2 things: quality and networking
going to parties & festivals and meeting people who are involved with this things is a very good idea. playing your music in a party so that somebody that owns a label, or is part of a label can enjoy your music and recommend it, or invite you to release something.
in networking, nothing beats talking to the people face to face.
