Hi!
I wonder how i can make my instruments sound more alive, lately i have build som new instruments similar to real ones,
I like the way they sound, but i would like them to modulate in some way, and have more expression in them so they will sound more alive, please give me some advice.
My other question is what does the modwheel on a synth actually do an how can i make this effect on wavsamples ?
Regards Conny

The modwheel is simply a controller on a keyboard. By default, most modwheels are assigned to the filter cutoff frequency so that when the modwheel is turned all the way down the filter cutoff is at the minimum, and when the mod wheel is turned all the way up the filter cutoff is all the way open.
I like to assign my modwheel to the filter and use that while I play, opening and closing it with the groove of the lead.
But in many synths you can assign the modwheel to many parameters - pitch, lfo rate, resonance, etc. In this way, you can use the modwheel to vary all kinds of parameters while you play, giving a synth line more feel.
Try writing a synth line (putting all the notes in) and then pay attention to the notes with a lot of feeling in them, the ones that stand out to you. Go in an edit the automation on your synth and every time you hit one of those 'power' notes, try modulating the pitch up and down for that note or maybe the filter open and close real fast.
Hope that helps!
