i really struggled on bass lines until i learned the trick of sub bass put a nice sine wave on frequencies under your bass and it will instantly sound fat as fuck lol if you do it right...hopefully thats what you need too...Peace!!

Don't go into compression techniques... sinewave thing can add fatness but on long notes, kbbb sound better with no sine (to my ears).

First of all you should have PERFECT synth settings. Artists like the ones you mention use TRILOGY a lot. You have to carefully set filter and envelopes to make it sound plucky, also you have to tweak the filter's key follow so higher notes sound as tight as low notes (this bassline styles use octaved notes).

Also you have to make your kick and bass fit together, they shouldn't clash time or frequencies and low frequencies at the kick's tail should more or less match the frequency of your bass so they sound as one.

Distortion, Eq, Compression and so son can help as makeup for already balanced bassline but first get the best sound out of the source synth.

These artists usually move their bassline notes in very common progressions, if you know about basic harmony you can easily find out the ways of uplifiting morning basslines.

some feedback, opinions, help... will be great.
Im always lost in witch order do we need to work on trilogy to make a bass. filters first?? or amp envelopes or filter envelope...
What is the best (if there are) preset wave to start with... sh, tb303...

don t bounce to audio, keep the synth and all the processing so you can tweak it later to sound good in a busy part of the mix as well.

That bassline sounds ok? what is that you don't like, perhaps the kick is a little too clicky but other than I find it good, can be fatter and more balanced but is not bad.

On a synth I would normally treat first the amp envelopes since it will determine the note's lenght then the filter envelope will give its edge and accent.

Just chose any wave you like, give it a short and snappy amp env, then set your cutoff and filter depth settings and then tweak the envelope, then go again and tweak everything again, and again and again until it sounds good.

Check your midi notes, check your kick's lenght, blah...

There are thousands of bassline threads and tutorials... its a mater of practice.

There won't be any comment on an Internet forum that will give you that special something that you need to balance your bassline... its a mater of doing it a lot of times and comparing to released material.

But don't forget about making music... everyone's bassline is different and it the end is important but not the only thing, don't get obsessed with it. I know sometimes it is very frustrating but believe me with enough time you will know what is wrong and then know how to fix it.

If you have to ask wether you tweak filter or amp first I asume you don't know much about synthesis... learn how the soundsignal traves inside a given synth then you will know what to do in order to shape the resulting sound in one way or the other.

EQ is important. WARNING I'm not pro at all, but I recommend this:

always cut the fundamental.
play with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th harmonics.

use a narrow Q, cut a little, boost a little.
note that if you boost 1st and 2nd harmonics, it tends to sound muddier/boomier.

try all options to get the sound that you want.
carefully boost some, or do little cuts on all of them. it is up to taste really.
when you do precise EQ, every small change in the EQ band gain changes dramatically the sound.

you can even go deeper in the spectrum..
boost on 3 to 7Khz for a string/finger tight sound, etc.

if you have different notes, equalize each note according to it's frequencies.
it can be a tedious task...
good monitors and a treated room help a lot.
