Hello,
There are times when you come across a very catchy loop (melody)on a sample cd and you want to use them in your own productions.
How can we find the key and scale of the loop so that we can add it in our own production.
Thanks

if you use cubase, right click the audio file --> audio --> statistics. in opened message you will see statistics (strange, yes?) of the file you selected. among other data you will see estimated pitch of the file.

I'm sorry to be blunt here, but how does one write music without indetifying key or scale of a given melody by ear? If you find it difficult, you should work on it - this is probably the most basic fundamental need of anyone who's writing music. How can you manipulate scales otherwise? How can you introduce musical questions/answers in your sentences? Music is all about keys, scales and harmonies... Give this a thought.

Music can be seen as being heavily reliant on mathematics and formulae, and looked at it that way, one's music theory could use note and scale manipulation in rhythm and melody following mathematical patterns harmonious with some of the greater equations in musical structure. And then, use mathematics to break those rules
Just about anything relating to music composition could be correlated to numbers and math.
Just my thoughts.

As far as I'm concerned you have to be really well trained in order to pick up a melody's key, just by ear. |

while playing accoustic guitar I'm able to find a melody by ear what, at least for me, is completely different when I'm trying through computer, plugins and stuff. synthesis and processing change many aspects of melody IMHO.
the answer is always the same: hard work, training, studying and patient |

Use the software to identify things like that, but in order to make the most of it, listen carefully so that you get to train your ears in the process.

Of course I didn't mean finding the key on the spot by ear, but rather by finding it using a musical instrument, usually it will be a keyboard that is attached to the computer.
