Question: Best way to get mkv files into sony vegas pro 13?
"I tried converting mkv to mp4 with handbrake and converterlite, but with both the video quality was lowered quite a lot.
Then I read that MKVExtractGUI might be good, so I used that and I get a file that ends in .h264 that can't be used with vegas pro or any video players I have. I have no idea where to go from here."
Sony Vegas Pro doesn't support MKV natively. I'm not sure why but it possibly has something to do with the main implementation of MKV, as a container for copyrighted and illegally distributed material.
Now if the material does belong to you and for some reason it is packaged in a MKV the best thing to do is convert it to a more industry standard format in order to load it into Vegas Pro. Re-encoding will result in loss of quality so you will want to simply strip the video (likely some form of mpeg) from the MKV container.
