Well, UV photos can be done different ways:
1: You can use a film of 400 ISO and take off the flash on the camera! You need a camera witch allow you to use a manual focus (Not auto focus! With out the flash the camera wont be able to focus clearly). You need to set the exposure time as quick as you came to avoid the blurred pictures! Or setup the exposure to 1 second you will get the deco clear and the people blurred (nice effect). Then you need a tripods to make sure the camera don’t move during the exposure time! (Well all this options are available on regular Reflex camera)
2: You can use a film of 200 ISO with the flash on! But then on the flash add a UV filter (You use a plastic transparent UV shit or peace of UV glass like the usual black light) just manage to fix it to cover the flash light, then it will light up every thing in nice UV effects.
(This can be done on any type of camera)
Hope that will help you to make nice pictures

if you have a digital camera, you need one camera that allows you to control manualy .
then you need tripood and choose long "clicks " ( i don´t know the word in english, maybe "exposition". the machine has to do cliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick for some seconds. )
no flash.
then you only have to make some tries, of how many seconds do you need for a good photo.
you can make some funy things moving the camera during the "cliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick"

Hi Rik,
So, to answer your question,
All the type of camera got a zoom, unless you get a very simple one .
There is 2 bigs type of camera Numeric (Digital) and Analogical (standard),
**Analogical**;
There is the regular one, small and automatic focus, and there is the Reflex one witch is more tools to play with and setup. With a Reflex one you are able to see exactly what you will have on the photos and the zoon can be change (Well, “zoon” is the action, the name of the part is the “Lens”).
Standard camera:

Reflex camera: (the one I’m using )

**Numeric**;
On this type on camera you get a lot of tools! And there is a lot of thing to compare from one to an other one! (Memory, pixels quality, etc…..). They all very similar accept few of them witch are very professional. On the numeric camera you can’t change the “Lens”, well now yes cause Canon just release a new one very pro with the same look of a Reflex , and as far as I know it’s the only one where you can change the “Lens” for a numeric.
Standard numeric;

Professional Numeric with changeable “Lens” (my dream! )

Maybe the question was about the camera that CyberBaba was talking about?
Taking a tripod to a party is not very comfortable unless you are a professional photographer
and the quality of shots is primary for you... and if you go to parties only for taking pics..
But if you were a professional, I think you could make good photos without a tripod
