I like to get really blitzed on jello shots and puke all over the decks it gives you more fluidity in your mixes

haven't had those since university daze...
I think that like the same for music there is no clear rule, as what works for some people may not work for others, and vice versa. if you are a regular smoker, then exactly you may become more focussed, but in either case it is a matter of practice.
a friend once told me, if you study for the exam while stoned, then when you take the exam you will do better if you are also stoned. I tested that once, and found it to be true. however, if you study sober, and then take the exam stoned, for sure you will be f*cked. utlimately its how the brain and consciousness draws relative to 2 situations separated in time.
what is the most important thing, I think, is that you are having fun, because that vibe will pass on to the crowd, and I think that is more important than technique...
needless to say, if your set starts sucking you wont be having fun either, so a good balance is necessary

For me, I would always play while up on a roll....then take another half way through. My sets had (and still do have) their fair share of 'oops' moments..at least to me, but the intensity as a whole far out weighed the silly bits...I truly had (have) MANY cosmic circular moments with the crowd...and a blast was happening by all!
Here's the problem...I've recently been recognizing the "need" to be high...which has brought me great anxiety! So i'm now working towards playing sober...and still trying all the things that I seemed to have only come up with while high...
playing high is truly a blast, but when one can't do it without being high?! well for me that's become an issue. Blah! ;-)

last year me and some friends made a small event at a beatiful little lake and i was supposed to play a liveset in the night.
some hours before i took a trip, and it was a strong experience, but still very nice and still ok to play... but then i accedently took some Amanita muscaria that was put in a bottle schnapps and that was a very very strange experience..
i went to my car, coz i knew it i had to sit down somewhere more quite and it felt like maybe half an hour with strange noises in my head and a warm body feeling (first i was a bit afraid, but soon it got quite interesting) but it wasn't half an hour - it were four hours...
..so i played, still very confused, at sun rising time 
be careful, but try Amanita muscaria on acid if u like a very strange trip  |

Gnnn, sounds like fun ^^ Maybe i'll try that when i don't have to dj or play live ;-) Less stress during trips is always a plus. |

if u cant dj high dont get high plain n simple especially if its a payed gig u do hve a rep to hold...if u can dj good high then its more power to ya... i like to get 2 beers and blunt
probably take a whack if offered hehe, i miss shrooms ah the glorious high skool yrs! when it use to be just me and olf faithful erhh hmm my guitar, yup she mainly begs to be played nowdays, but i got my eyes on red shes kinda nord-y ahhh what the hek im blazed! |

i have seen some djs stomping to their own beats while beeing drunken/stoned not recognizing that the music just sucks.
but i have also seen other ones beeing totally on drugs and making very good music. depends on, drugs will not make you better if you are not good, thats for sure.

Finally a really goooood post !!!
As a begginer DJ & Producer, I actually have the same problem exactly!
I always hear that its soooo cool and fun to mix while stoned, and when you produce high on weed you get the funkyest music and best sounds...
Well, it doesn't work that way for me...!!!
If I mix when Im stoned - it won't be called mixing... rather - crossfadeing...
And if I create sounds and tracks high it sound FUCKIN' A at the very moment, but next mornin' it will sound as if the radio isn't tunned in...

I would not be happy with someone DJing at one of my events while pissed or high. Its very unprofessional. Would you work anywhere else while high?? To be honest, if you need drugs to enjoy the music you play then thats no good thing. In the 7 years I've been playing (I bet most of you have actually heard me play) I have never been drunk or high. |
