hi guys,
i want to know how to make a sound wider using the method where you duplicate the track and make one panned hard right and one panned hard left and then delay one of them...
how do you do the delaying part?
thanks

duplicate the track, so that you will have the sample twice. than zoom in at max!!! and you will see that now you can see the meters in miliseconds, so just move left or right a bit one of the samples. than pan left the one and pan right the other, additionally you can move a liitle bit one of the files until you are happy, but it is really much more easy to use the voxengo stereo touch vst (FREE) which makes he same but on one channel and also it has some more effects like gain control, wide, lfcut. much easier

you can find it here. it is totally free

and here is an image of it:

Or just use the track delay?
It's at the bottom of eah track if you have it visible, otherwise click the "D" to the right of the master.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

I created an effect rack to do that, with 2 chains :
-One chain with only the dry sound panned hard left using the "utility" plugin,
-One chain with the utiliy + "simple delay plugin" panned hard right. I'm not in front of Live at the moment but there is an option on the "simple delay" to create very short delays. Turn the feedback to zero so that the delay doesn't repeat itself.

Try different delay time, you may have to change the panning too.
Live's Racks are great.

If you are not used to using racks you really should get in to them, and it's super easy to do what yveusss described.

Just put an empty effect rack on the channel and open the chain view (the middle of the icons on the left).
Drag an utility onto where it says "Drop Audio Effects Here", then drag another utility to add a second chain.
Drag a Simple Delay onto the second chain.
Now just set the utility on the first chain to use left channel as input, and the right channel for the utility in the second chain.
Pan one chain left and one right and set the desired delay in the simple delay.

Now you created your own plugin for stereo width expansion, and you can assign a macro knob for stuff like controlling width. I'm not sure if assigning it to the dry/wet control on the Simple Delay or playing around with the panning is the best approach, or maybe a combination of both...play around with it and see what you think.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

I also use fx racks to create a "pseudo send" or complex send :
1 chain with the dry signal
1 chain with a delay 100% wet + other FX (chorus on the delay for example)

The main advantage is the workflow and easy routing.
You can let this rack nested in the track FX, so you don't have to reach the Return track for this ...

I use instrument racks to save my favorite VSTs presets directly into Live. This way, I don't have to open vst ... remember the preset name ...find it , load it .... . I also made an instrument rack including "external instrument" for my nord rack, including several FXs ready to activate if needed.

haha
yes there is indeed mac version. all voxengo have mac versions. one more reason to love them. as i use both platforms i can easily open projects in win xp or in osx... voxengo is there.

I use the filter delay. Dry all the way up. Left and right delayed some number of milliseconds. Filter to taste.

You could just use Utility, or find a better free plugin. (Sorry if it's been posted)           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

I don't think utility actually creates a stereo spread. If I'm not mistaken it only narrows or exaggerates it.

No idea, I just know that in (at least) Live 6 and up, you can set the width to 100-200%. I rarely use it anyway..tons of free plugs that will do it much better.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

in Fl, pan one track hard right, rout to another track, pan hard left, send to another channel and in that one delay to pre or post and set the wished parameters as to how far you delay the sound. Samples milliseconds I think even ticks?
