Wow FaceHead what a great post dude. I enjoyed reading it, so much stuff i agree.
I have been practicing my fills and they are getting better. Stuff i know has helped me a lot:
- Using more hit sounds
- Several retrigger, reverse
- Toms and different drums
- Silence here and there
Still hard to create original complementary parts that won't sound too flashy. I really understand what you say about keeping it tight and balanced without becoming annoying breaking the trance over and over.
The real art is providing nice detail at the right moment, ear candy to enjoy while we get back to the smacking beat.
Thanks again everyone. |

I suck at breaks so don't do any and that often makes the tracks kind of boring, i also make way to few fills and thrills it all distract me from the feeling when im writing and all i ever know is those classic breaks which only makes what comes after feel like a anti climax...
So i really should be practicing making good breaks...
Thanks for a nice thread with lots of good advice..
Peace
