You know those couple of bars at the end of a given section (sometimes just a bar or less)... i'm always feeling kind of lost when attempting to fill that space with something killarg...
Most of the time my breaks lower the track's energy rather than giving that extra punch :/
any halp? |

less is more.
and something i've been doing lately is automating gates to go on a lead melody when a break comes. Sounds tight.
pulling everything out and putting in some kind of weird drum beat works. the more out of style the better.
also quotes obviously have a cool effect for breaks. stutter them.

Or write a track without a break.
Why write two halves and a break if you can write one whole instead? And then you can shorten it to 5-6 minutes - Suomi style. |

I've been analyzing some of my favorite... shit is most use a lot of sounds in so little space / time, sometimes i listen over and over without being able to recognize how it was done...
My breaks are not that crappy but i don't feel they flow like the should, or like pro tracks...
Please don't say same old stuff "try to make your own don't imitate others" because i am not trying to sound like somebody else just want to achieve an effective boost at my break editing.

you want to post them or tell us what you're listening to? I actually had a hard time understanding when people would make breaks by bouncing out certain elements of the mix like the bass and kick and some other things, then throwing them back and reversing them for a break until i realized that was what they were doing.

When you say breaks, do you mean a break in energy ie, ambient parts/break-downs or do you mean build-ups followed by a fat drop?
Obelizk's bounce out then chop, reverse, process is what I usually do for the latter. |

Last phrase of a build up before a drop or a fake one. Or sometimes just at the end of certain section. Equivalent to rock's drum fills but psy's glitcho killarg retriggering shit a la nutek, for example. |

If somebody could simply tell you how to do that, it wouldn't be original or innovative anymore.

LOL That's true, you could write a breakbeat track with no breakbeats in it at all, and give it a catchy, funky genre name
After all, it worked for psytrance. |
