like taking a kick and re-triggering it with increasing speed
same with a voice sample.

any ideas?

that's just what you said: a kick re-triggered!

Make your Kick play in all 1/32 or 1/64 notes and it's done! If you're using audio samples, you may need to shorten the length of it and place a fade - so that the audio doesn't click. If you're using some form of sampler, just write the midi notes and that's it. The tendency is for the volume to jump up while doing so, so be sure to compensate for that with some form of automation or any other work around. If using sampler and velocity is modulating the volume, just bring down the velocity on the occasion, for example.

The pitch going up or down in the particular case you ask for is just a consequence of having the Kick restart pretty fast. That doesn't mean you can't modulate the pitch as well.

Cheers

thanks bro!
i thought tho, there is some effect plugin that does this, adding some more options.
ive heard stuff like this done with like a voice sample (the last bit of the sample is re-triggered and some speed play)

there are a couple ways to achieve this effect. one is with a tape/dub delay where you adjust the delay time in milliseconds slowly with the feedback at a high %. can do this with the ableton delays by right clicking on them and selecting 'repitch' mode and it will give the classic effect.

another option is to chuck it into a sampler and have the pitch of the sample adjusted over time by a pitch envelope in combination with the sampler looping the segment of the sample, can also give a similar effect.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Yes, the delay is just an automatic way of doing this. Not always the best, 'cause if you don't render the delayed signal to audio, you can run into trouble with the effect's tail. For a constant time, I'd do this with audio myself. If however, you want to change the tempo on the effect, then using a delay device not only saves time but is the more logical solution.

when repeating slices of audio (samples) at different speeds, you will get higher pitch the faster the repetition. that doesn't mean you can't pitch modulate the samples themselves or the whole thing afterwards, just experiment!
